The gun powder was first introduced in the military by the Chinese in eleventh century. Initially, the Chinese did not know the potential of gun powder as an explosive or as a missile weapon. In later years Chinese used gun powder against Europeans. Roger Bacon, an English friar arrived at the formula for gunpowder in 1260. Initially, gun powder was used in primitive canons along with spears. In early days poor manufacturing techniques plagued large number of canons. Several years of experiments were needed for the true use of gun powder in canons. After many difficulties, the gunpowder was designed suitable for canons.
